Just before sunset, the observation deck of SHIBUYA SKY teems with activity. The glass railing casts a unique perspective, giving the illusion that visitors are strolling through the heavens.

In the hush of early morning, a local walks beneath the vibrant red torii gates at Hie Shrine in Akasaka. This sacred place, dating back to 1478, now sits atop a tree-covered hill, providing a peaceful oasis in the midst of the busy office district.

Zojoji Temple, an ancient temple situated in the shadow of Tokyo Tower, with the setting sun casting a crimson hue on a solitary drifting cloud.

As I stroll towards the subway station near Zojoji Temple, the magnificent ‘Sanmon’ gate, one of Tokyo’s oldest architectural treasures, stands resplendent in a mesmerising silhouette against the backlight. The enchanting dance of light and shadow left an indelible impression on my lens.

Beyond the ‘Sanmon’ gate of Zojoji Temple, a lone cyclist glides-by bathed in the alluring muted morning rays.

Every mid-September, the three-day Akasaka Hikawa Festival unfolds. Dressed in traditional attire, local residents flock to the streets, carrying ornate shrines in a vibrant procession.

Amidst the urban giants of towering skyscrapers, TOKYO SKYTREE graces the cityscape with an air of elegance, standing out as a striking beacon. The clouds add a sense of theatrical grandeur.

As neon lights replace the sun, the residents of Shinjuku and Otsuka take to the streets, pedalling their bicycles with the city’s vibrant energy.

In Otsuka, I encountered a warm and welcoming tea seller offering a unique “earl grey of green tea.” Though our communication was limited, the universal language of laughter bridged any gaps.

This photograph is among my favourites as it beautifully encapsulates the quintessential essence of Tokyo - a seamless fusion of tradition and modernity.

Shortly before 9am at Zojoji Temple, a monk tends to the shrine’s entrance, ushering in the day’s first guests.
