Right at the foot of Switzerland’s most photographed mountain in the world, the Matterhorn lies Zermatt, a car-free vacation destination which has preserved its original character. With its guaranteed snow conditions, the region is one of the best-developed ski resorts in the world and has a unique range of winter activities to offer.

This ski region encompasses of 54 mountain railways and lifts as well as 360 kilometers of pistes. Visitors can enjoy skiing and snowboarding 365 days a year. This destination has attracted winter sports fans from all over the world to this Europe’s highest ski area.

Tobogganing is another fun activity that visitors should try. The sled run from Rotenboden at 2,815 metres to Riffelberg at 2,582 metres is the highest sled run in the Alps in a wonderful mountain setting: facing the Matterhorn and surrounded by 29 other peaks higher than 4,000 metres.

Another special way to spend a unique evening in the Matterhorn winter paradise — Tobagganing fun by night after enjoying a typical Swiss dinner in a cosy mountain restaurant in the hamlet of Furi.

Zermatt offers its guests the greatest density of gourmet restaurants in the Alps. Deliciousness is guaranteed, whether dining in one of the restaurants or a combination of adventure and gourmet. From every angle, the destination offers a breath taking panorama which you can enjoy on a sunny terrace with a view of the most distinctive mountain in the world.

With the Zermatt cableways, even the journey becomes a unique experience: Enjoy the ride  from Zermatt to Trockener Steg in the luxury VIP gondola with a glass of champagne. The Crystal ride gondola to the peak “Matterhorn Glacier Paradise”is not for the faint-hearted — their true secret is only disclosed around three minutes into the ride when the darkened floors suddenly become transparent to reveal stunning views of the glacial landscape 170 metres below. An amazing experience and one not to be missed!

The cabins for the Matterhorn glacier ride were designed by the world-famous PININFARINA studio and feature heated seats inspired by car design and the use of high-quality materials such as leather and Alcantara.

To top it off, The Matterhorn glacier ride is the highest 3S cableway in the world. The lift, which opened in the autumn of 2018, features one very special highlight: four exclusive “Crystal ride” cabins decorated with Swarovski crystals.  

This summer, Zooom the Matterhorn, a multimedia experience world is being created on the Gornergrat around the Matterhorn and its unique panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

In this adventure world, visitors get closer to the Matterhorn in three zoom stages. In the first stage, visitors can choose between two virtual paragliding flights: the relaxed, panoramic flight and the eventful, sporty flight. The focus of the virtual sightseeing flight with 3D glasses in floating armchairs is always the Matterhorn and the awesome alpine landscape that surround it.

The second stage takes visitors on a journey through diverse scenarios in all four seasons on the Matterhorn - from icy winds, snowy landscapes and autumn storms to fresh spring landscapes and balmy summer evenings. Finally, in the third stage, periscopes allow visitors to get very close to everything, the view is directed towards the real Matterhorn and the surrounding alpine world in all its dimensions and beauty.
