In Japanese culture, 「Wa」—harmony—is not merely an aesthetic ideal, but a way of life. It exists in the subtle balance between people, in the rhythm of nature and time, and is also reflected in a carefully crafted glass of whisky. Created by The House of Suntory in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur’s Japanese restaurant Kikyo, Hibiki The Harmony Within is an immersive tasting journey centred on this very philosophy of harmony.

This month-long limited experience (from now until 31 December) goes beyond a conventional whisky tasting. Anchored by Hibiki Japanese Harmony, it guides guests through three classic Japanese drinking styles, each revealing the emotions, cadence, and artistry behind the craft of blending.
During the session, Darwin Ng, Brand Ambassador of Suntory Global Spirits Malaysia, shared that Hibiki is not created for a single moment, but for different states of mind. Through varied ways of enjoying the whisky, drinkers come to understand its brightness, depth, and sense of balance. Tasting, in this context, becomes more than a sensory act—it is an experience that resonates with one’s emotions in the present moment.

Under his guidance, guests were led through three rituals, each shifting the mood and mindset:
Highball | Light and Luminous
Opening the journey, the highball awakens the palate with its refreshing effervescence and crisp profile. Light and bright, yet never overpowering, it is like the first musical note—gently inviting you into the world of Hibiki.
On the Rocks | Deep and Contemplative
A carefully sculpted sphere of ice melts slowly, stretching time within the glass. As the whisky opens up, layers of wood, honey, and fruit become more pronounced. This is a moment that calls for stillness and reflection.
Mizuwari | Delicate and Balanced
Diluted with Japanese water, this style reveals Hibiki’s softest and most precise expression. A perfect balance between whisky, water, and air allows every flavour component to coexist clearly and harmoniously.

Together, these three ways of drinking form a complete movement—progressing from lightness, to introspection, and finally returning to balance. Unhurried and composed, they embody the very spirit of wa that Hibiki seeks to express.
This December, step into Kikyo and experience Hibiki The Harmony Within for yourself. Through three distinct styles of enjoyment, take the time to listen closely to what Hibiki has to say—spoken quietly, through a single glass.
