Velaa Private Island presents a new gastronomic concept at Aragu, offering contemporary European cuisine with an Asian twist. Meaning ‘Essence’ in local Dhivehi, Aragu takes the dining experience to a new level by combining an innovative vision for culinary art with awareness and sustainability.
With daily arrivals of organic ingredients from around the world, carefully chosen by Gaushan de Silva, Executive Chef of Velaa Private Island, a sense of trust is built for diners looking for a refreshing experience.
To begin, guests may indulge in delectable Gillardeau Oysters or Gourmet House Caviars, before choosing from a diverse array of main courses from Queensland Spanner Crab, New Zealand Lamb, or Chicken from Bresse, to Manadhoo Butternut Squash or Organic Tofu and more.
Healthy and guilt-free dessert options also include Exotic Fruit, Citrus composition, Cherry Tarragon, Almond Fondant, and Peruvian Chocolate served with coffee crispy crackers.

To complement the refined cuisine of Aragu, Ibrahim Waheed, Food and Beverage Director of Velaa Private Island, has created the 800-bin wine list – one of the largest overall wine collections in Maldives.

Aragu is located on the southeast corner of the island and is built as an over-water escape, complete with strikingly beautiful interior designs that symoblize elements of the surroundings including 400 hanging fishes suspended from the ceiling to present a sense of closeness with nature.
